Part, Not Whole

Hartford selective demolition with shoring engineered first

Load Has To Go Somewhere

Shoring is designed and stamped, never improvised

The question on every selective job is where the load goes while the wall is out. That is an engineering answer, not a site judgement, and it is the single thing that separates a controlled opening from a callback. We have the temporary works designed and stamped, install to that design, and only then cut.

The needle beams, props and spreaders stay until the permanent beam is in and the load is transferred properly. Openings in structural demolition follow the same rule whether it is a house or a frame.

Where the wall is not carrying anything, it drops to simpler wall removal and the price with it, which is why the survey pays for itself. Reusable timber, brick and fixtures come out under deconstruction and salvage when the value justifies the labour.

How It Runs

Four stages, priced before stage two

  1. Establish what carries

Survey the structure and confirm the load paths.

  2. Design the temp works

Shoring designed and stamped, not improvised on site.

  3. Install and prove

Support in and checked before any cutting begins.

  4. Cut and transfer

Opening formed, permanent beam in, load transferred.

Straight Answers

Hartford selective demolition questions, answered

Joist direction, wall thickness and what sits above are the first clues, but the only reliable answer comes from a structural survey. Assume it carries until an engineer says otherwise.
For any load-bearing opening, yes, and most municipalities require the stamped design with the permit application. We coordinate it rather than leaving you to chase it.
Often, in stages. The room with the opening is out of use and dusty for the duration, but the rest of the house stays usable if the sequence is planned for it.
Work stops at that element and you get the options in writing before anything else is cut. Structural surprises are exactly where quiet improvisation causes real damage.
Sometimes. Old growth timber, brick and quality fixtures can pay for the extra labour. Standard modern materials rarely do, and we will say so rather than sell you the hours.
